At the Top of His Lungs

“It’s time to see the doctor," Andres dela Cruz finally said to his wife after three days of unrelenting high fever. His body already hit 40 degrees Celsius and he began losing weight because of excessive perspiration. At the hospital, Andres, though feverish, felt the waiting room turn cold when the doctor gave his diagnosis. A battery of tests revealed that Andres had an enlarging tumor in his lungs which had started to contaminate his blood. The doctor was forthright. “Andres, you have lung cancer and only have six months to live,” he said.
Andres’ health deteriorated further in the days that followed. He became rail-thin and his coughing parched his throat to a very painful level. Hope was almost lost for Andres until Carmen Chan, a relative who is an E. Exceller, took immediate action.
